Unit 2: Revolution
Following the French and Indian War, British policies and colonial resistance to those policies set the 13 English colonies on a path towards revolution. Following the French and Indian War, England was in A LOT of debt so the British government began placing taxes on the American colonies to help pay their debt. Colonial frustrations with having no voice in British Parliament and British taxation policies led to the cries of “no taxation without representation”.
Led by the Sons of Liberty, organized protests, boycotts, and acts civil disobedience in the American colonies led King George III of England to enforce his policies through the use of military occupation within the defiant colonies. Colonial outrage and British occupation led to conflicts, fighting, and bloodshed. The colonists would eventually get so frustrated with the actions of the British government they declared their independence from England in 1776. If the American colonies were to be independent of British control, a war for American independence would have to be fought and won.
